KOLLAM: Students
of a Government school in rural Kollam are now radio jockeys presenting live
voice programmes on their own radio operated at the school. The model radio
broadcasting set up by the students of BMG High school in Kulathupuzha here
will have programmes every Wednesday, presented by the students according to a
pre-planned schedule.
The ‘BMG radio’, the first of its kind in the district, has been
set up with an intention to improve the creativity of students and is run by
the social science club of the school. “The new curriculum includes various
processes in media like programme production, editing, and reporting. Students
are given practice on all these specialties through the radio. Starting from
production to delivering the programme, all stages are handled by the students
alone,” said Blesson T. John, Principal of the school.
The programme starts by recitation of ‘Vande Madaram’ followed
by a news programme lasting seven minutes which includes the top news of the
week. “The radio will introduce one eminent personality from the field of
poetry and science every week. Next week’s schedule is a tribute to poet O.N.V.
Kurup,” Binny Sahithy, radio coordinator and faculty member of the school, told
DC.
The radio team includes 25 students including RJs Dona and
Adheena, programme producers Naima, programme manager Aswin, and news editor
Raji M. Paul. The programme produced at the e-lab of the school is broadcast
through the speakers set up in all the classrooms.
