THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For many, especially those without the quintessential television set, radio is the one communication gadget that provides entertainment. While there may be many who love to tune in to their favourite radio stations, a bunch of school students have thought otherwise and have come up with their own station. Kulathupuzha BMG High School has come up with a unique endeavour that will be beneficial for the students. In an attempt to improve the holistic skills of the students and to get them more involved in creative activities, the school has come up with the idea to start it's own radio station.
The activities of the station will be helmed by a group of 25 students from classes VIII, IX and X. The school's Social Service Club came up with the idea for such an activity.

The daily itinerary of the radio station starts with 'Vande Matharam'. This is followed by light music, folk songs, mappila pattu and so on. After the music session, the student jockeys present news updates that last for 5 to 10 minutes. The news include school events and winners of competitions as well as the local, national and international ones. That's not all, the programmes also include thought for the day, riddles and selecting students based on qualities like punctuality, honesty and so on. Binny Joseph, convenor of the school's Social Service club, said, "A studio has already been set up in the school's Smart class-enabled IT lab. The programmes will be held every Wednesday noon from 1.15 pm to 2 pm. The activities are meant to improve the student's spontaneous speaking abilities in particular."
Though the activity will be officially launched coming Wednesday, the project kickstarted with the Minister for Forest and regional MLA K Raju sharing the first message to the kids through phone. Naima, the student chief editor of the radio station, says, "This activity will be highly beneficial for us and will help us polish our creative skills and vocabulary."
When asked if the school plans the radio station as just a year-long activity, the school's HM Blesson adds, "We plan to continue this as a permanent activity."
